After the visit to the police station, the flock descended on the Fall River Public Library to have a look at the Fall River Room and exhibit of Fall River artist paintings.  A happy hour was spent there looking through old street directories, postcards and reference materials-some rare, and all chock full of information about the city.  After a tour of the library it was check-in time at #92 Second Street and preparations for the annual banquet, this year at the old Quequechan Club on North Main Street.  Some Mutton Eaters opted for vintage clothing.

The group handed out awards and enjoyed a superb dinner in the Captain Study on the second floor after taking a tour of the bowling alley and other rooms of the 1894 former gentleman’s club.  Dinner was followed by the cutting of the 2010 Cheesecake- a tradition for the Mutton eaters, this year featuring  a topper of Lizzie Borden counting dollars instead of sheep in her little bed back on second Street.  It was a late night with lots of singing and presentations by members which included new material on Dr. Seabury Bowen and Sarah Cornell.

It’s getting mighty close to the big week in Fall River when Jill Dalton reprises her smash hit from June 20th- Lizzie Borden Live.  Also making a “comeback” will be the irrepressible Mutton Eaters on hand to add a bit of period dash to the streets of Fall River, the Borden’s house on Second St. and the trolleys.  It will be a big month for the little troupe as Tuesday August 4th will be the re-enactments at the house where it all began as the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast Museum marks the anniversary of the famous crime.  Lizzie Borden Live will once again sparkle at the new -old Eagle on Friday and Saturday, August 21&22 Get your tickets early!

Mutton Eaters May 2008

Posted in Uncategorized on June 27, 2008 by administrator

The weather was perfect for the Spring flocking of the Mutton Eaters.  Friday began with a trip to the Swansea Library to see the new photos of Little Lizzie.  A trip to the Swansea Historical Society revealed the Andrew and Sarah Borden portraits in all their glory, plus a wealth of early Victorian artifacts which kept the gang enthralled.  A visit to Riverby, where Lizzie’s sister Emma was waked was next on the docket, followed by a good graze at Ma Raffa’s eatery. Sadly, the historical society was closed early so we had a short tour of Oak Grove Cemetery before checking in at the Borden House, then on to the Abbey Grille for our Annual Mutton Eater’s Banquet.  Stefani Koorey received this year’s Golden Fleece and Lens of Sherlock Awards for continued excellence in contributions to the body of knowledge on the Borden case.  Actress Jill Dalton received the first ever Lambie Award as best actress for Lizzie Borden Live, which hopefully shall be coming to Fall River this summer.

Saturday was jammed-packed with a trip to the Astor’s Beechwood to witness a new 1891 script in the mansion, performed by costumed actors, followed by lunch at the Tennis Hall of Fame and a real treat- a visit inside the Covell House where Lizzie spent the summer after her acquittal. Saturday’s Open House back at #92 featured some special desserts and birthday cake for Len and Kristin. For the diehards who hated to stop, Sunday morning found the flock in Fairhaven, visiting the Green House where Emma Borden was staying the day of the murder, a tour of Riverside Cemetery and more tying on of the nosebag at Gene’s seafood shack.  Get ready for Spring 2009!

Lizzie Borden Mini #3: The Death of Abby Borden

The Official Seal of the Muttoneaters

Future Muttoneater inductee Kfactor has designed an especially snappy emblem for the upcoming November 9th meeting.  Kudos and Congratulations!  “We can’t do anything in a minute, run through the free Latin translator comes out something like

Nos non proficio quisquam in brevis vicis.

Everything always sounds better in Latin- or at least it sounds more legitimate and important! Membership cards for the Second Street Irregulars is the next project.
