April 16-18 2010 will mark the fourth annual gathering of the Second St. Irregulars Mutton Eaters.
As to itinerary, Friday we will be investigating the city of Taunton for our early adventure followed by our annual banquet Friday evening at White’s Restaurant Presidential Room. Saturday will bring a very indepth tour of Fall River, a visit to the Fall River Room at the library, city cemeteries, and a tour of Borden-related houses still standing in the city. Saturday night we will be having our usual Open House for LB Society members and the first Hyman Lubinsky Ice Cream Social with 1890′s music. There will be visits to our usual Victorian Venue of course. Also, we will have our “Call for Papers” and will hope several of you will again present research projects you will be doing over the Fall and Winter. Some of our recent endeavors will be published on Warps and Wefts very soon.
Naturally there are one or two surprises in store !

Extra seating is being added on today as a result of a blizzard of news coverage and radio interviews for the play written and starring Jill Dalton. The old Eagle restaurant has been beautifully converted for the occasion and a flock of Mutton Eaters will descend to be on hand to meet and greet playgoers in the lobby. Dr. Dolan has a new derby hat for the occasion and Mrs. Borden will be circulating with a tray of hors d’oeuvres and tips for flaky pie crust! Alice Russell, Bridget Sullivan, Emma Borden and Mrs. Churchill will have something to say about everything, and undertaker, Mr. Winward will be glancing over the crowd for prospective future business! Best news of all- Miss Lizzie Borden Live will be returning in August- that all-important month!!

“To that end, appetizers and a cash bar will be available and, to help playgoers get into the proper mind set, the event will be enlivened by members of The Mutton Eaters, a shadowy group of enthusiasts who know their roles.
“We’ll have the Mutton Eaters there to interact with the audience,” Cabral said, explaining that, as you sip a cocktail before the show, you may be approached by a woman in authentic 19th century dress, a woman who claims to be Emma Borden. Listen to her. She’ll tell you who she is and she’ll tell you some interesting things about what did or didn’t happen on that morning. There will be other costumed players about, too, all with information to impart.”

Calling All Mutton Eaters! The date for the Annual Flocking of the Second Street Irregulars, Noble Order of Mutton Eaters has been announced for
April 24-26 , 2009. Reservations are currently being taken at the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast (508-675-7333) . A list of alternative sleeping accommodations will be published this week as the house tends to fill up very quickly. On the agenda to date:
1. A jaunt on Friday to Dedham to visit Lizzie’s beloved pets
2. A call at Wheaton College to see where Emma spent time being scholarly
3. The Annual Mutton Eaters’ Banquet and Awards at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the Abbey Grille
4. The Mad Hatters Tea Party with hat contest and prizes on Saturday at 5 p.m.
5. City Tour of Lizzie-related places and Oak Grove Perambulations
and assorted hilarity, tying on the feedbag and presentations of yearly research projects, experiments and re-enactments, and hours of aimiable chitchat with a few surprise guests .
August 4th – A Busy Day for the Mutton Eaters

This year, a goodly number of the Mutton Eater flock will be joining staff regulars at the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast annual re- enactment. This will be the largest cast ever, in the 12 year history of the house.
Along with all the family members, (even Emma who will “return from Fairhaven”), Dr. Dolan, Mrs. Churchill. Mrs. Bowen, Detective Seaver, Alice Russell, Miss Manning from the Fall River Herald, and even the family undertaker, Mr. Winward will be appearing on the scene. The script will be more interactive this year, with the house visitors helping police search the cellar for weapons and interacting with the costumed actors. Mr. Borden will already have been found on the sofa, but the tour guests will have to find the body of Mrs. Borden when someone suddenly realizes she is “missing”. Tour times are approximately on the half hour from 11 to 3:30 on Monday, August 4th.

Once again the Fall River Preservation Society will be presenting a holiday house stroll featuring the beautiful “Painted Ladies” of The Hill section of the city and the Borden home on Second Street. Last year was such a success with hayrides, carollers, refreshments and the Historical Society’s annual Christmas display at the Rock and Maple Street corner, this year’s tour of the stately homes, filled with antiques and holiday decorations, promises to exceed all expectations. The Second Street Irregulars will be attending, as many as can in costume, for a glimpse of the Past, history, architecture, good company and great food.
